I prepared by body for 6 months before my daughter was born.
Why on earth would I put myself through such torture.
I’m going to explain in just a second, and you’re going to want to read this post all the way through!
No alcohol, no bad food, regular exercise, good sleep and good thoughts (where possible ?) for 6 months.
Did you know that your lifestyle and environment leading up to conception can affect your unborn child?
This is called Epigenetics.
Here’s an example.
If I have the genetic code to get diabetes but never over consume carbohydrates then I can drastically reduce my chances.
But If I have the diabetes gene and all I eat are fried carbohydrates, you might as well chop off my feet right now and save me the trouble.
Your diet and lifestyle can change the way you genes express themselves. So if you have diabetes when you conceive, the baby is more likely to get diabetes.
Drunk when you conceive? That baby has a higher chance of being an alcoholic.
Starting to get the picture?
You see, as 1 part of the dream team (the other being mum) you provide genes to your future children. But you can give them a head-start in life, or a bad start in life depending on how you express your genes in the lead up to conception.
And if you think you have it bad, it’s the poor mum who suffers the most.
Not only does their genetic expression for the baby begin ONE YEAR before the magical date of conception, but then everything they EAT, everything they DO and every thought they have plays a part in developing little newborn for the next 9 months.
And if that wasn’t enough, if they breastfeed then everything they eat (or don’t eat) affects not only how the baby grows and develops, but even affects the babies facial structure and pelvis width!
So if you think you have it bad dad, i’m here to tell you your 6 months of good food is nothing compared to mums…
1 year pre
9 month during
6 month + after
That’s almost 2.5 years of everything you do affecting your child.
If that’s not a shock to the system I don’t know what is.
Anyway, for a lot of people those times have long passed.
Lucky for you, there are still infinite ways you can help little junior through life, whether they are 3 years old or 13 years old (not that they’ll want to listen at that point)
My goal with this account is to shed some light on how I help my little one and to explore the latest science and the ancient wisdom of those that came before us, so we can nourish our kids to give them the best possible opportunities in life.
